// WELCOME TO ASPERGERS FROM THE INSIDE!!
My name is Paul and I discovered I have Aspergers at age 30.
If you're new you can check out a playlist of some of my most popular videos here: https://www.youtube.com/c/aspergersfromtheinside/playlists
Yes, I know, I don't look autistic. That's exactly why I started this blog, because if I didn't show you, you would never know.
As the name suggests, this channel is devoted to giving you insight into the world of Aspergers.
This blog started off being just my story, but I've learned SO MUCH about my own condition
from meeting others on the Autism Spectrum that now I make sure to feature their stories as well.
I've come a long way in my own personal journey.
Now I'm sharing what I've found so you don't have to learn it the hard way too.
-----------------------------------------------
// WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THIS BLOG
You can expect me to get to the point with concise useful information.
I focus on what is most important and don't shy away from difficult topics.
The best way to learn about Autism is to see it in real life ( i.e. via the stories of many, many people on the spectrum).
In this channel I endeavour to show you what Autism and Aspergers look like in real people and to also give you some insight as to what's happening on the inside.
I upload a new video every weekend with some bonus content thrown in mid-week too.
There's always new stuff coming through so be sure to check back and see what you've missed. (Is this where I'm supposed to tell you to hit that subscribe button?)
Topics Include:
- What is Aspergers/Autism?
- Aspie Tips, coping strategies, and advice on common issues
- Learning Emotional Intelligence (this is my special interest!)
- Autism in real life: stories from special guests
Everything I do is and endeavour to go deeper and take you 'behind the scenes' to understand what may, at first glance, seem 'odd'.
oh, and I love busting stereotypes and turning preconceptions upsidedown 🙂

// ABOUT ME
I discovered I have aspergers at the age of thirty.
It has been my life's mission to understand these funny creatures we call humans.
My special interest is a combination of emotional intelligence, psychology, neuroscience, thinking styles, behaviour, and motivation. (I.e. what makes people tick)
My background is in engineering and I see the world in systems to be analysed.
My passion is for taking the incredibly complex, deciphering the pattern, and explaining it very simply.
My philosophy is that blogging is an adventure best shared.

The 4 phases of retirement | Dr. Riley Moynes | TEDxSurrey
Imagine squeezing all the juice out of retirement! When interviewed on his research, Dr. Riley Moynes commented, “I wish I knew then what I know now about the psychological challenges that accompany retirement. It would have made things much clearer and easier.”
By interviewing hundreds of retirees, he has discovered a framework that can help make more sense of this challenging chapter of our lives…one that, for many, could last for 30 years or more.
If you’re retired, this talk will make things much clearer for you. If you’re not, you’ll have a better idea of what to expect when that time comes. Riley has enjoyed a distinguished career spanning four decades in both public and private sectors.
In public education, he served as a teacher, Department Head, a Superintendent and a Director of Education. He also authored several textbooks including a History of Russia, and a World Religions text.
In the private sector, he was a Founding Partner of a national wealth management firm, author of a book entitled The Money Coach which enjoyed sales of over 200,000 copies in six editions, and co-author of several editions of Top Funds.
Since stepping back from day-to-day involvement in financial services, Riley researches and writes reader-friendly publications on topics of general interest, and presents Workshops across the country based on those publications.
One of his most recent books, The Four Phases of Retirement, became a Canadian best-seller within 12 months of publication, and is the basis of his TEDx Talk.
In the book, he explains how he waltzed through Phase One of retirement, struggled in Phase Two, tried a dozen ventures in Phase Three and now in Phase Four, assists others as they navigate their way through the psychological changes and challenges almost everyone faces in retirement. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx -

Why Families in Europe Are Sending Elderly Relatives To Care Homes in Thailand
While Thailand has long been a popular tourist destination, in recent years Westerners have also been flocking there for an entirely different reason: assisted living and end of life care.
Subscribe to Journeyman here: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=journeymanpictures
‘The care system in Europe is not working anymore, and it's going to be a big, big problem,’ says Martin Woodley, who opened a care facility in Thailand in 2003, after his father took his own life because he couldn't cope with his wife's dementia. Eileen Chubb, a former carer in the UK, isn't surprised people are looking for alternatives. She now investigates abuses in UK care homes and has seen plenty of horror stories: ‘People were left with bedsores to the bone and when you walked onto the unit you could smell dead flesh.’ In these Thai resorts, patients are cared for 24/7. Looking after your elders is a vital responsibility in Thai culture, but even there things are changing. One Thai woman, for example, says she won't rely on her sons in her old age: ‘I'm not sure who will take care of us’.

1970: VICTORIAN TEENAGERS reminisce | Yesterday's Witness | Voice of the People | BBC Archive
What was it like to be a teenager in the Victorian era? Two women, now in their 90's, talk about their younger days in the 1890s. Frances 'Effy' Jones - one of the first women to be trained to use a typewriter, and to take up cycling as a hobby - recalls the life of a young working woman in London. Berta Ruck, a romantic novelist, remembers her formative years at art school, and the culture shock she experienced after moving from her secluded home in rural Wales to the muddy hustle and bustle in the heart of Victorian London.
Together they provide a fascinating oral history of 1890s England.
This clip is from Yesterday's Witness: Two Victorian Girls, originally broadcast 8 June, 1970.

My Alzheimer's grandmother sometimes forgets everything and everyone, but never this cat. Real Love
My 88-year-old grandmother found the love of her life in a rescued Norwegian forest cat. This cat's greatest pleasure is being petted by my grandma while swinging in this hammock swing. Due to my grandmother's illness, she sometimes forgets everything and everyone. Sometimes she forgets her children, grandchildren and even who she is. There is one thing she will never forget. Her love for this cat. Never forget this, grandma. I am proud to be your grandchild. It's never too late for love. My grandmother can't even spend day away from cats anymore. My grandmother has been sleeping with cats for a long time.
Greetings from Adorable Paws. There are many stray cats living in our country. We have a dream. We established this channel to make this dream come true. Building a natural habitat for homeless animals. We are just at the beginning of the road. We believe we will make this dream come true one day. Would you like to join this family and help us make this dream come true?
You can watch videos of the cats - kittens we rescued from the street and adopted. In addition, we help many stray animals in our country in terms of feeding, housing, sterilization and treatment. You can support us by watching videos of thousands of animals in need of help.

10 Ways to Collect Memories and Share Your Stories
Looking back over your life, sharing your legacy becomes a priority. We want to find creative ways to share our stories that do not involve writing a book. That is likely not to happen. So in this video, I talk about 10 ways that you can collect memories and share them with your family and friends. And at the same time bring your own life, accomplishments, and lessons into focus.
Our stories are a roadmap of our life and now while you might have a few extra hours, it's the perfect time to reflect and gather those pictures, memories, journals, recipes and things that will tell your unique story. Have you considered creating a memory box or a family time capsule?
How do you plan to tell your stories? Have you written a memoir or book, or are you recording memories of your life in some other way?

You Won't Believe How Some People Describe the Aging Process
There are certain phrases like anti-aging that really bother me. We all know the phrases that are used to describe older women including old biddy, dear or over the hill. But you may be surprised at some of the very derogatory words used to talk about older people. We need to change negative age terms. It is one of my passions! Pushing back on aging stereotypes!
Let's focus on health instead of youth. How about experienced and worldly-wise instead of old.
Even 'Women of a certain age" has a sense of ageism about it. In this video, I talk about unacceptable words that describe the aging process and even some that you might use to describe yourself.
What age term do you use to describe yourself? What terms to describe an older person do you approve of? Elder, older, mature? Or something else

Serenity & Ferocity: Aging as Spiritual Maturity - Jan. 31 2021 - Rev. Debra Thorne
Aging is inevitable and unpredictable. It is an act of hope and optimism, laced with fear and dread. A mystery. When did you first realize that you were aging? Was it at 10 or at 50? At every stage there are opportunities and lessons to be learned. It’s thought that the last third of life – an elder’s life – is a gateway into a deeper spiritual life. Because whether we are graceful or raging, we pay closer attention into things that really matter. -
Serenity: Aging With Dignity Living With Grace 2
A short story of overcoming adversity, finding peace of mind and true purpose in the second half of life. -
Serenity Aging With Dignity, Living With Grace
Award-winning film and television producer, David Brady's work is best known in Canada but is no stranger to U.S and European audiences.
In his new book, Serenity: Aging With Dignity, Living With Grace, he chronicles his life-altering experience of being viciously assaulted by a young man with mental illness.
The result was a traumatic brain injury that would have left other permanently incapacitated. However, Brady's honest account of his harrowing experience will take you, the reader, through the stages and steps he had to take to overcome his severe handicap and find peace of mind, prosperity and real happiness in the second half of life. -

Older adults learning social media skills
(13 Sep 2021) LEAD IN:
A free online course in Russia which teaches the over-50s how to master Instagram and Facebook is in its fifth run.
Started in 2019, it's not only enabling older Russians how to adapt to a digital age and communicate more efficiently, it's also improving their professional lives.
STORY-LINE:
64-year-old Valentina Ionova does not have a clue about social media.
Mastering Instagram, Facebook and Twitter is second nature for many young people around the world.
Social media has become so ingrained in the way people and societies communicate that it's often forgotten that mastering the technology is a task in and of itself.
And it doesn't come easily to everyone.
Valentina is taking part in a course for people aged over fifty that launched in Russia in 2019
As part of the course, 30 trainees create their own profile on a popular social network.
"There is a wide range of participants and each of them has his or her own reason to come - some just want to look at photos of grandchildren and be on the same wavelength as their grandchildren or children. Some want to promote themselves as experts on a platform," says Ekaterina Usanina, manager of Elder Generation strand at the Dobry Gorod (Kind City) charitable foundation.
Before the course Valentina posted only a few photos on the social network, the account had no header and no descriptions for the photos.
A teacher by profession, being able to communicate digitally with her students is all the more important especially during the pandemic.
"I would like to have my own audience - as they say, the target audience. So that I interact with this audience, so that I could hold classes, as I plan to find students with this social media," she says.
This is lesson four out of ten for Valentina, during this time, she updated her profile and uploaded her first stories to Instagram and learnt how to sync it to her Facebook profile.
"While I was distracted by Instagram, my Facebook was left without attention, and now everything is interconnected, all together, which I also really like," she says.
The course is mindful not to encourage overuse of social media, a habit that's becoming increasingly associated with poor mental health and other problems such as lack of sleep.
Marina Purlaur teaches on the course and has found that the stereotype of the grandparent struggling to even type a text message does not hold true.
"I have experience of working with the young audience, and I don't really see any difference. It seems to me that older people are even more disciplined, more responsible," adds Purlaur.
Organized by the Dobry Gorod (Kind City) charitable foundation, the classes are free and available all over Russia.

For 76 years, he made a living as a fishing guide in an iconic Canadian park | The Last Guide
Local legend Frank Kuiack is Algonquin Park’s last fishing guide. At 84, he considers his legacy and wonders who will carry on his work. #CBCShortDocs #TheLastGuide
• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •
Meet Frank Kuiack, the last traditional fishing guide in Algonquin Park. Kuiack carries a lifetime of stories and wisdom about the Algonquin. His magnetic personality, skills on the water and knowledge of the park’s intricate lakes and trails has inspired two novels.
When Kuiack was eight-years-old, a group of American anglers offered him $5 to show them where to catch fish — and he’s been making his living as a fishing guide ever since.
At 84-years-old and recently diagnosed with bone cancer, Frank’s health has taken a turn for the worse. While he’s attempted to train guides over the years and pass on his knowledge, the physically demanding nature of the job has turned away most potential apprentices.
Kuiack’s niece, Sharleen, has shown a unique ability to go toe-to-toe with Frank on the water but, despite her ability and love for her uncle, she remains unsure how to carry on his legacy or whether she desires to be the next “Last Guide.”

The last of the Newfoundland nuns | The Incredible Vanishing Sisters
With no new nuns to replace their dying members, these Newfoundland convents will soon close their doors forever. #CBCShortDocs #TheIncredibleVanishingSisters
• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •
The Presentation Sisters and Sisters of Mercy of St. John’s, Newfoundland are mostly invisible to the public eye.
For a number of years, there have been no new nuns to join the convents. The vast majority of the sisters are elderly women and they’ve given up looking for new recruits. They’re no longer involved in the school system, where they once found “the calling” as young women themselves.
But they are still actively fighting for the rights of prisoners and women, feeding the poor, and providing care to those who need it.
Even as their numbers dwindle, there are still many people who rely on the work and good nature of the Sisters — the needy who receive goods, clothing and health care, prisoners who are counseled while behind bars and past members of the convent who now find themselves requiring elderly care.
The Incredible Vanishing Sisters follows the lives of present-day nuns in their soon-to-be-abandoned convents, community health centre and private medical wards. They are a closed institution that remains a mystery to the general public — and one that will soon close its doors forever.

Germany’s poor pensioners | DW Documentary
Poverty threatens more German seniors than ever. How to make ends meet, when pension isn’t enough?
Herbert worked nearly his entire life, as a welder and as a sailor. But he never put much thought into his pension. Now at 65, he barely receives enough to make ends meet. He can hardly afford daily expenses, not to mention hobbies or a vacation. The number of people in Germany struck with the same fate as Herbert is on the rise. At 15%, the rate of pensioners living at poverty level has leapt higher than any other segment in society. Herbert relies on food donations and collects bottles left behind by party-revelers for extra cash. It’s not easy for him, but he has no other choice. Just like so many other pensioners, even in Germany’s wealthiest regions. A report by Axel Rowohlt.

One German pub owner is still serving at 87 | DW Documentary
At age 87, landlady Hildegard Schweinsberg is still behind the bar every day. Her pub "Zur Börse" is the heart and soul of the small village of Neuhaus. People meet here to drink, relax and catch up. What will happen if this tradition dies out?
A church, a cemetery and a pub surrounded by fields and forests - the scene of a typical, idyllic German village. But it's becoming increasingly rare. Many people are moving to the cities, and in the villages there are fewer places to meet and catch up. The pub has always been an integral part of country life, and for one lucky village of 1500 people, it's still a thriving tradition. In Neuhaus on the river Elbe, Hildegard Schweinsberg has been running "Zur Börse" for nearly 60 years. And at age 87, she still can't imagine ever giving up, despite often needing a walker to serve her customers. And there's no one to take over anyway. A report by Linda Vierecke.

100UP - teaser
